| Competency Management |
Competency Management is a major issue for any high technology industry. This is especially true for the IT industry. The ability of the IT companies to deploy competent people on projects decides the success of the projects. This leads to high productivity and profitability. This also leads to customer delight and repeat business.
IT organizations struggle to get competent people on projects. The rapid pace of technology change in the industry coupled with high attrition rates makes this struggle extremely difficult. The other issue faced by organizations is the high variability in productivity based on competence. This could be as high as 20:1. Statistical data indicates that there is a 48% - 120% increase in productivity if we deploy superior performers as compared to average performers.
AlmaMate has created an innovative Competency Management model that transforms an average performing organization into a superior performing organization. The competencies are mapped at the individual level in terms of knowledge, skills and process abilities. This is a two step process that consists of Competency Analysis and Competency Development. Competency development covers both technology as well as processes.
Competency Analysis
Competency Mapping is a process in which the competencies requirements for each position are identified. This is typically done by analyzing the superior performers in these positions. The superior performers and their supervisor are interviewed to identify the competencies required for superior performance. The competencies are usually in the form of knowledge, skill and ability. Ideally at the time of the appraisal, the competencies of individuals are assessed and compared with the competencies of superior performers in that position. A gap analysis is done and based on that training needs are identified. A training calendar is created based on the gap analysis and appropriate trainings are scheduled over the year.
Competency Development
Competency Development covers training in both technology and processes. The major trainings are covered in the table below. AlmaMate also creates a customized training program to address the specific training requirements of its partners.
